I hit the streets again on Wed. morning and ran another 3 miles. It was almost 30 degrees cooler, and I think that helped me to shave 40 secconds off my time. So, look out, Kelly. If the conditions are just right, I may be able to beat your time.
This run felt especially good, and I was able to work out some issues that have been bothering me these past few weeks while I was running. Not anything too serious, but the art of staying balanced eludes me sometimes, and I worry that during my juggling act of work, husband, kids, church, etc., one of my pins is going to hit the ground.
I am going to look for some local runs. It might help me to set some goals and have a time frame with which to work. And it will give me something to look forward to as well.

Getting back on the Running Track
I have always been a runner, and something I have always wanted to do is run in some type of event. I really want to do a 10k pretty soon, but I know it will take some effort to get into the kind of shape I need to do one.
Last week I finally got off my duff and did something about it. After sending my dear family off to work and school, I threw on my running shoes (they missed me), and I hit the street a runnin'. I did a lot of walking, but it had been awhile. I made it about 2 miles. It's not far, but it was a start, and was I really sore the next day. I ran again a couple of days later and did a little better.
Okay, so my sister throws me a challenge on her blog yesterday. She did this because she knows it's not my nature to pass up a challenge. And never say, "I double dog dare ya!" to me. Anyway, she tells me that she ran 3 miles on her treadmill in 30:00:05. Hmmm, I wonder how I will stack up on the street in 82 degree weather. So, I accepted the challenge. After driving my carpool, I set the timer on my iPhone, and took off running. Well, I am not sure how impressive 31:00:56 is, but I ran better than I thought I would. I found, however, that I had to really gut it out at the end, but I feel pretty good about it. It sort of gives me a starting point that I can work from. Thanks for the challenge, Kelly. I am going to try to kick your running butt!

Let's Give a Try!
I have followed blogs of all types for a few years. Most of them have to do with running, cooking, organizing, reading and mixed media art. I even have a blog my reading students can follow that supports their classroom learning. However, my sister encouraged me to try doing a personal blog, so here I am. I don't know if I will be particularly witty or informative, but I hope to gain some insight from the people I meet through this blog.
Anyone who knows me knows that I prescribe to the idea that sometimes we all need to "gut it out" on occasion. I guess that would be one phrase that might describe me best. But whether I gut it out or just do it without a lot of effort, I make sure there is a level of passion that goes with it, because I believe that nothing is worth doing if you don't feel some passion for it.
I look forward to this journey, meeting new friends and learning new things along the way.
Here's to all of us who know how to "gut it out."
